Journey of FFPL 2021 Winter Champions feat. Chemin Esports

Chemin Esports proved that they have what it takes to rule over the country. They are the winners of the Free Fire Pro League 2021 Winter. They have had a great year, where they got several top placements in top-tier tournaments, but they hadn’t gotten a trophy to add to their showcase yet. That obviously changed when they claimed FFPL for themselves. Let’s take a look at their journey.

The road to Pro League was rough

2021 was a turbulent year for this team. They had a great amount of potential, and they achieved some impressive results with it, but a win still eluded them. Under the banner of 4Unknown, they finished fourth in the inaugural season of FFPL 2021 Summer. They came very close to a podium finish but couldn’t get on it. The next season seemed promising for them. We saw them rule their group during the league stage of FFIC 2021 Fall, and they held onto their lead for the longest time, only to be overtaken by NGX at the last minute. But that’s not the real disappointment. In the finals of FFIC 2021 Fall, they got eliminated very early in a few games, which ruined their chances, resulting in an eighth place finish. They had shown everyone that they had the potential, and had been knocking on the doors of greatness, it was about time that success answered the door.

Foreshadowing of brilliance

Even though the trophy eluded them, their players popped off individually in that tournament. Anand started getting a lot more street rep as a credible sniper. People even started calling him the new-age Pahadi. Radhetkr was the MVP of Free Fire Winter Invitational, which got him back on the radar after his competitive hiatus in mid-2020. The fact that they had access to such high firepower foreshadowed their success in the upcoming FFPL 2021 Winter

League stage

Chemin Esports got three booyahs during the league stage. They were the uncontested kings of the hill, raining hellfire on everyone from above. Whether it was their high placement points or ruthless killing sprees, Chemin Esports were lethally efficient in all their games. With superior consistency, came superior points. They never really had a bad game, almost always staying in the top 5 teams, and averaging at least 4 kills every game. They always had at least one of their players as the kill leaders, sometimes even two. In this manner, they maintained their lead on the scoreboard at the #1 spot for the longest time. Their lead was only stolen away by Revenant Esports on the last day of the league stage. This got them a 12 point head start during the finals.

Hour of reckoning

Radhetkr popped off during the grand finals, single handedly channeling a steady stream of kill points in the direction of his team. Anand also unleashed his true powers, channeling his inner marksman to show us that he had the potential to be India’s next top sniper. Even though they didn’t win a single booyah during the grand finals, they never needed to. They got top 3 placements in three games out of the six that were played on that day. Their arch-rivals Revenant Esports were nowhere to be seen, as they crashed and burned early in several matches. The only team that could give them a run for their money was Nigma Galaxy, but Chemin Esports kept them at an arm’s length with a 10 point lead. Kalahari matches were truly great for this team, as their central position at Refinery netted them a lot of kills. In an interview before the finals began, we spoke to Anand, where he revealed that "Bermuda is our weakest map". However, they managed to overcome that hurdle too, as they killed around 10 points on that map, more than making up for their flaws.

After a long wait, they have finally seized a premier tournament title. We are very excited to see what the future holds for this squad. Free Fire India Championship 2022 Spring is around the corner. Let’s see whether or not they’re able to defend their place as champions, or will a new contender rise to meet the occasion.
