TSM & GODL fights for the top spot in Week 2 of the FFPL 2021 Winter

The Free Fire Pro League 2021 Winter has seen the conclusion of its second week. Only two more days of league play are left before we discover the twelve finalists. With very little time left in the tournament, things start to heat up. This week also was a massive roller coaster ride. If for any reason, you missed the action this weekend, then this recap is for you.

Double booyahs to start off the days

Both Days 3 and 4 of this league stage had one thing in common. They started off by one team winning double booyahs to start off the day. On Day 3, it was TSM who left their mark on the lobby. With Chemin Esports absent from the lobby, TSM tried their level best to bridge the gap between them and the number one team from the lobby. This double booyah was a banger of a start, and they carried the momentum forward in the remaining matches of the day as well. By the time Day 3 ended, TSM found themselves at the top of the scoreboard. TSM also made a record by accumulating 87 points in a single day - the highest single-day score in the history of FFPL.

A similar story ensued on Day 4, GodLike Esports got off to a flying start by winning the first two matches of the day on Bermuda and Purgatory. While they were unable to climb all the way to the top, they covered significant ground and are now in the top 3. The key between TSM and GodLike’s playstyle is how frequently they decide to fight. GodLike is a lot more liberal with their fights and picks them as they seem fit. TSM, on the other hand, prioritizes positioning first instead of fighting. As a result, GodLike always has at least a few kill points in hand before they enter the final circle. TSM on the other hand, have to gamble on their rotations and make a move, not knowing whether it will pay off.

Orangutan Elite and Team Chaos are starting to catch up, but is it too late?

Orangutan Elite are widely regarded as the best team in India after winning the FFIC 2021 Fall finale and winning a booyah at the Free Fire Asia Championship. One would expect a team of their caliber to shred the lobby without any difficulties, but surprisingly, Orangutan Elite had been having a pretty difficult time. The same can be said for Team Chaos. While they do not have a reputation as notorious as ex - Team Elite, they have certainly been in their fair share of top tier tournaments. Both these teams were struggling in the midfield up until last week, but they finally can catch a breather.

Orangutan Elite won a cheeky booyah on day 3, in Game 4 (Bermuda), while it was with only 2 kills, one must appreciate the way they were able to pull it off in the most unexpected of ways. After suffering early losses, one wouldn’t have expected much from them in this game, but they made it all the way to the top with clutch plays. They also won Game 3 (Kalahari) on Day 4. This was a damn good game from their side, as we got to see some well calculated rotations in the mid-game and amazing fragging towards the end of the game

Team Chaos on the other hand, proved to us once again why the casters called them ‘Kings of Purgatory’. It's weird how at one point both Team Chaos and Nigma Galaxy used to hot drop towards Central city and duke it out. It was one of the hottest rivalries, but both the teams were seen changing and experimenting with different landing spots in this tournament, with varying degrees of success. Team Chaos was able to win the booyah in Game 5 - Day 3 (Purgatory), and another one in Game 4 - Day 4 (Bermuda).

Chemin Esports once again reclaim the top spot

The absence of Chemin Esports from Day 3 of the League Stage gave an opportunity to several teams to bridge the gap between them and the toppers. In fact, when Chemin Esports were absent from the lobby, their Kalahari drop location of Refinery was contested by Revenant Esports and Nigma Galaxy. Refinery makes up the heart of the desert map, and one can see how scared the other teams are of Chemin Esports, that they don’t even dare to go near that area if they are present in the lobby.

Regardless, when Chemin Esports returned to the fray on Day 4, they proved to everyone why they are the best. Not only did they get top 5 placements consistently, but they were also able to secure a decent number of kills, resulting in the creation of a steady inflow of points. They stormed through one of the toughest zone rotations in Game 5 of Day 4 (Purgatory) and won the game, even though all the odds were stacked against them. Whether it's battering through bridge camping opponents, or neutralizing the zone advantage that rivals have, Chemin Esports are the ace of aces. They reclaimed their rightful place at the top of the scoreboard. They were also the first team to cross the 200 points mark, which further cemented their supremacy.

While the battle between the top teams intensifies, the middle order teams must do everything that they can to stay in the top 12 next week. Only two more days remain in the League Stage of FFPL 2021 Winter. Who will make it to the finals?
