Ignite Your Fire feat. Total gaming Esports

Total Gaming Esports will be playing in the Free Fire Asia Championship this weekend. They are one of the only squads from India that has an abundance of experience competing in tournaments outside the country. They are representing India for the third time Internationally. They finished 8th in the Free Fire Continental Championship last year. We spoke to FozyAjay, the captain of the team about what we can expect from them in the upcoming competition.

Q. Hi FozyAjay, How’s the form of the team going into the Asia Championship?

We are trying to be at the apex of our game. Frequent practice, research and reviewing of our old games, all of it has been scheduled. We have also accounted for some time off so that we can focus on our physical and mental health. We also make sure to spend some time away from the screens too.

Q. How have you guys been practicing?

We have been doing the same routine for a few months. We usually wake up, get fresh, have a meal and get ready to practice by 12pm. We warm up by playing some Clash Squad and classic games for an hour, then we start scrimming. If there is a tournament to be played, then we play there. We try to keep stronger opponents around us in practice, so that we can hone our skills against the finest. We have also been trying to scrim in lobbies outside of India, however, that is all subject to availability and scheduling issues. Recently, we have added an extra step in the process where we watch the demos of our opposing teams together at night. After practicing and playing all day, we learn a little bit about our opponents during the night. We are trying to find out everything we can about the teams that we will be facing in the FFAC.

Q. What did you learn from your previous experience at the Free Fire Continental Series?

We have realized that we need to be more coordinated and quick in making decisions as compared to the teams around us. If our overall awareness and game sense is sharp, we can stay alive for much longer. We are going to be on the lookout for more opportunities to not only engage in fights, but also openings to get out of trouble. We have learnt from our past mistakes and our performance should be much cleaner this time.

Q. Is there anything in particular that you are worried about or are on the lookout for?

Not really. We try to focus on every aspect of the game. Strengthening one aspect at the neglect of others won’t get us anywhere. Last time we got a little caught up in rotations, and while that remains to be a problem, we won’t let it get in our way. There are certain plans that we have made that we will try to implement before the game starts, but most of it still comes down to the decisions we make while we are inside the game. Strategies seldom go according to plan. We only figure out what to do next when we see the circle in the game.

Q. You are not the only team that pointed out weaknesses while rotating. Other Indian teams like PVS Gaming and Desi Gamers said the same. How will you deal with that?

We are going to move a lot faster this time. We don’t want to be caught off position or in between a cluster. If we find a chance to get in the centre, we will certainly take it. However, we will probably stick to the edge depending on the situation. We’re trying to get out of our comfort zone so that we can adapt to any situation. Like I said, most of these questions can only be answered inside the game. One can only theorycraft so much.
