FFIC 2021 Fall: League Matchday 3 Recap

Today marks the conclusion of FFIC 2021 Fall’s first week of League Play. We started this championship expecting the underdogs to give the established teams a good run for their money, but we end this week with nothing but more ambiguity regarding how it’ll end. The top 3 teams today had similar scores, ending in a three-way tie. Such an ending has never happened in any notable Free Fire tournament before. If you missed the action today, here’s your dose of recap.

Total Gaming Esports, 4 Unknown and Galaxy Racer tied up

All three of these teams secured 71 points today. We have seen ties before, but not three-way ties. 4 Unknown and Galaxy Racer both performed well during the first half of the day and then kept the consistency up to stay afloat. Whereas Total Gaming mounted a massive comeback towards the end of the day. Total Gaming Esports won two back to back booyahs in the last games of the day in Purgatory and Kalahari. Their ability to control the amount of area in opponents control in the last circle is amazing. In Purgatory, they controlled the slopes, forcing the other teams into each other, thus weakening all their opponents. In Kalahari, they did not have the zone advantage. Galaxy Racer had the favourable compounds, but Total Gaming Esports was able to use their own momentum against them by timing their attack well and laying siege. Total Gaming Esports was able to take the number 1 spot after winning those two games. They are also currently on top of the League Points table in their group.

4 Unknown and Galaxy Racer show their dominance too

Galaxy Racer was the team that performed the best day before yesterday. They had a very position-heavy approach to the game. They ensure their survival and grab as many placement points as possible. Even yesterday, they had more placement points than any other team (44). They won the third game on Kalahari today by prioritizing their positioning first instead of focusing on gatekeeping other teams, even though they had the opportunity to do so. This approach got them the booyah in Match 3. They would have been able to win Match 6 as well in a similar way, if Total Gaming did not ruin their plans.

4 Unknown on the other hand, had a bit of difficulty managing their space around Purgatory. This match was interesting because it ended near the dreaded ‘heaven’ compound near Brasilia. While their preemptive positioning did get them in a little bit of trouble, Swastik’s heroics were enough to fend off the attackers and secure the win for them in Match 2.

UG Empire show signs of promise, Team Elite do what was expected of them

UG Empire won the first game of the day. While watching the game, one would have said that it’s unlikely they would win. They participated in a lot of fights right from the start and captured positions that would grant them an advantage, regardless of whether or not another team was already present there or not. However, they couldn’t avoid getting into traps during the later stages of the day, and hence their performance slipped down to the fifth spot.

Team Elite on the other hand, tried to be the sweatiest in the lobby yesterday by playing very aggressively, but were only moderately successful. They finished fourth, just one point below the top three (70). Usually Team Elite have two or more people in the ‘top players of the day’ list, but today they had only one, and that was Killer

To sum it up, the most popular teams in India dominated the day, just as one would expect them to. The underdogs didn’t get to do too much damage. But when every pro team is performing well, it means that nobody is. A three-way tie does not grant any of the teams a decent enough advantage to get too far ahead in the league table. This tournament is still close. Do you think we will have a few clear winners by the end of the next week?
